Conservative Wisconsin law firm lawsuit to block student loan forgiveness

A conservative Wisconsin law firm filed a lawsuit on Tuesday seeking to overturn President Joe Biden's plan to forgive up to $20,000 in student debt for millions of borrowers

The latest in a slew of lawsuits across the country alleging the move is unfair and unwise.

The White House proposal would forgive up to $10,000 in federal student loan debt for borrowers earning less than $125,000 per year,

less than $250,000 for married couples, or up to $20,000 for those receiving federal Pell Grants.

An estimated 40 million borrowers nationwide, including 685,100 in Wisconsin, would be eligible for relief.

According to the Biden administration, more than 300,000 Wisconsin borrowers could have their entire balances reduced to zero under the plan.
